The West Toowong Community Association Inc. is a group formed in 1999 to take actions that protect, maintain and enhance the social, architectural, environmental and visual amenity and character of the West Toowong area. The Association takes an active role in issues affecting the area. These may impact upon the built (that is, housing, streetscapes and so on), natural (green spaces, creeks, established trees) or social (public transport, pedestrian access, community building) environments. We have been involved in lobbying for upgraded services and amenities, drafting and writing submissions to State and local government level planning proposals and development applications, liaising with other community groups in surrounding suburbs and further afield, petitioning, working to rehabilitate the natural environment, and recording the area's history. In 2003, we published the book Toowong: A community's history. Dates and times for meetings of the Association, our History Group and Toowong Creek rehabilitation mornings are advertised on our website. Please visit the site for details of activities and to contact the Association: www.toowongwest.org.au
